So it wouldnt have been a fun day without an adventure...right??
I woke up at 5am this morning to catch my 610am train to San Sebastian. Yikes. That was an early train, but it was the only one for the day that wasnt full so I just slept most of the train ride in. I rode 3 trains to get here. My 2nd train was running about 30 minutes late, and my connection for my 3rd train only allowed about a 10 minute layover! So Im getting a little panicked on the train, but still watching Harry Potter, so staying relatively calm (Anna!). I arrive in Irun, Spain 5 minutes after my 3rd train for San Sebastian was supposed to leave. I get really nervous because I have no idea how I am going to get to San Sebastian until an American family of 5 runs past me yelling ¨Hold the train!!!!¨ Turns out, they were on my train and had more guts than I did to yell and sprint in a tiny Spanish train station. We became friends on the train ride over, they were from Nevada and very nice....I keep thinking...what would Mom have done in this situation...? She would have been making friends, so I did!
Once in San Sebastian I realize I have no idea where my hostel is...I just know the name-Pension Amalur. The taxi driver speaks no English but we kind of peice together where I am headed and we head on our way. He drops me off in a really neat part of the Old Town and I walk upstairs to the hostel. When I give the lady my confirmation sheet she just shakes her head and says no, no, not here....Hmmm this is odd. Why not maam? As it turns out, the taxi driver took me to Pension Amaliur. One letter difference between Amaliur and Amalur...
Found another taxi to take me to the right hostel and I am here now! When I looked at the map the owner gave me, it turns out all of the taxing around the town I did was defintly walkable...and I had no idea. Oh well! A few Euros down the drain was worth it.
We are staying in a room with 8 bunk beds, lockers, and bathrooms down the hall! I was chatting with another girl staying here (who speaks 4 languages and is going to her 2nd year in med school...geez) and she said this is one of the nicest hostels she has stayed in, so I am happy about that! We are also about a 30 second walk to the beach so hopefully I can regain some color that the Paris rain and clouds have stolen from me
I am anxiously awating Tess´ arrival now!!!
