Day 1:
I decided to be economical and take the RER train out to the airport from Paris as opposed to the shuttles or taxis. I thought I was so smart and hopped on the hour long train headed to Charles de Gaulle and am very proud of myself until about 30 minutes into the ride some man starts speaking to me in French and pointing to the door. Of course I don’t know a word he is saying but he keeps pointing to the door and finally the man sitting across from us points at the door and yells “Get Off!” Im very confused because I was so sure I was on the right train but as it turns out, the train splits at a point and one end goes to the airport and the other end goes to who knows where. So thank goodness for the stranger or I might have never found the airport. CDG is huge, but after about an half hour of walking I find my gate and am ready for my sleeper plane to Abu Dhabi. I flew Etihad Airlines which is probably the nicest coach flight I have ever had. The food was delish, we each had our own personal tvs, free booze, and they provided ear plugs (Brittany) and sleep masks.
I arrived in AD at 730am, thanks to Emily for coming and picking me up! Then we came home, rested a bit, ate breakfast burritos (yum I miss Texas), and watched the most recent Harry Potter. I napped twice during it so I’ll have to watch it again before the Final one comes out NEXT WEEK! Then Emily treated me to a manicure pedicure at the nicest spa! The women in there were so incredibly nice and the mani/pedi sesh took about 2 hours! I decided to try my luck at being “threaded.” Threading is basically an alternative to waxing or plucking that removes hair without ripping your layers of skin off. As she is working on me the lady proceeds to tell me that she can thread my nose if I want her to! BA! Do I have a harry nose I asked her???? I am mortified at this point by the way…but then she tells me that it is a great way to exfoliate and clean the nose… (this is weird, I think) I let her do it because I thought why not?? Im in AD, might as well thread the nose! It was painless, took about 10 minutes or so and I had a squeaky clean nose at the end of it. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted their nose pores cleaned J
Emily then made a delicious meal of proper Mac and Cheese, we watched Avatar, I fell asleep during it of course and turned in early for the night!
Day 2:
Today was part of David’s weekend so they lovingly drove me to see Dubai. Halfway there David lets slip that he doesn’t actually like Dubai but recovers well saying he is excited for me to see it though, so it was worth going J We went to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, 140 floors! We were only sent up to the 124th but that was high enough for me. Then we walked around the Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world. Emily bought a dress and I bought a cardigan (its actually way more fun than it sounds!) We ate Thai for dinner in anticipation of the Dubai Fountains that go off but got the time wrong by about an hour and missed them…I hear they are similar to the ones in Vegas so I know what Im looking at. On the drive there and back I drilled David and Emily about the culture and history of AD so hopefully I am pretty brushed up on a lot of it and they aren’t too annoyed of all my questions yet.
One question I asked them though was their favorite part about being in AD and both of them said Molly! Great answer. She is the most perfect little bundle of joy and all 3 of us just stare at her constantly. They are the best parents, and very on the ball about her feedings and nappings and clothes and toys. I swear Molly Rose even looks cute when her milk comes back up!
Here are some pics of the day! More adventure tomorrow
