Prague, Czech Republic

Upon arrival to Prague, after a very early flight without a good breakfast, Ben and I decided it was necessary to have lunch at McDonalds. I ordered my first Big Mac in about 4 years and Ben got the “McCountry” only to find out it was two pieces of breakfast sausage with cheese between two buns. We then made our way to Prague on Segway to start our tour. Since Ben does segway tours in Paris, he was a natural…while I had a bit of a rocky start. Ben even video’d me at a turtle’s pace, flinching at every bump. We went on the viewpoints tour which included riding the segways all over the highest points of the city to see the incredible views.

John Lennon Wall...notice any new Aggie artwork??

That night we found a Mexican place for dinner…”Czech-Mex” proved to be pretty tasty. Still not up to par as Tex-Mex, but that’s ok. We still had yet to eat any traditional Czech food at this point.
After dinner we found an Irish pub that was showing the women’s world cup finals and watched the game come to a heart-breaking end with Japan beating us in kick-offs.

The number one thing to see in Prague according to Trip Advisor is Prague Castle. It is the largest castle complex in the world. The grounds themselves are stunning and the cathedral in the center is enormous but the place was so crowded we didn’t stay very long. We stumbled across gardens below the castle on the way down the hill to Charles Bridge with not a single person in them…one of my favorite parts of the trip.

We walked across the famous Charles Bridge, rubbed the statue of a Saint whose name neither Ben and I can remember (the picture with 5 stars around its head) but it is supposed to give you good luck….Ben rubbed it twice for extra luck. I found a watercolor from an artist on the bridge that I can add to my art collection from many of my travels.

We ate lunch at a lovely outdoor Italian cafĂ©…still no Czech Food…and then walked through the Old Town Square, through the city, and along the river.

For dinner we ate at….an Italian restaurant on a boat on the river. Still no Czech food…I just couldn’t stomach it.

On our last day in Prague we ate lunch at a monastery on the top of a hill overlooking all of Prague. Decided Czech food wasn’t for me and ordered a Waldorf Salad. We then climbed to the top of the miniature Eiffel Tower that was built in Prague a few years after the original one was completed in Paris. Interesting fact: the tower in Prague is actually taller than the one in Paris because of the very high hill the Prague tower is set upon.

On our flight home to Prague, Ben and I compare Prague to Paris:
·        - Prague is smaller and much less crowded than Paris
·        - It is quieter than Paris
·         -Everything is MUCH cheaper in Prague. Beer is about 1 Euro in Prague while we pay 5 or 6 Euro in Paris.
·         -Service at restaurants is better
·         -People are more willing to speak English
·         -We were able to walk the majority of the city in a couple hours….never could happen in       Paris
·         -Less sights to see in Prague
·         -Similar weather…cool with small rain storms
